Grassland: Hungry folks know where to
head when in Grassland
If you read the results of The Tennessean's Toast
of Music City Reader's Choice Awards announced
in Sunday's newspaper, then surely you
noticed two shining stars in our Grassland
community.
Congratulations to The Daily Dish restaurant
and Nashville Pizza Co. Both are silver
medalists in their respective categories:
best new restaurant and best pizza.
Considering the scope and breadth of the
polling area and the competitiveness of
the food and drink category (nearly 44,000
individual votes were cast), I'd say second
place is not too shabby!
"We are very proud," said Daily
Dish co-owner Jill Begin. "The Grassland
community seems to love us, and we love
being a part of the community where we
live (and) where our son goes to school.
Grassland is a very busy little area. We
hope to stay here for a very long time
and hope the community and surrounding
area continues to support us so that we
can make that happen."
Jill's husband, Sean Begin, is the chef
extraordinaire at the Dish. Sean ventured
to Nashville in 1994 to become sous chef
of the revamped Capital Grille inside the
historic Hermitage Hotel. I'd say that
was a good move. Not only was the restaurant
lauded by Esquire as one of the
top new restaurants to open that year,
but Sean was also introduced to Jill, the
restaurant's then-manager.
They've been a team ever since. Jill handles
the bookkeeping and public relations for
the business while Sean, a 20-year veteran
of the industry, perfects his culinary
delights.
If you haven't already fallen in love
with this Southern meat-and-three establishment,
then it's high time you drop by. It's open
for lunch and dinner from 10:30 a.m. to
8:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and
they've added a Sunday brunch from 9:30
a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The new Sunday brunch offers a carving
station, eggs Benedict, waffles and omelets
to order, assorted salad and cheese displays,
hot entrees, smoked salmon, peel-and-eat
shrimp, desserts, pastries, fruit and more.
Yummy.
They've also added a boxed-lunch menu
for pickup, which is great for surrounding
businesses. And I love the family value
pack they're offering for $29.99. It includes
a meat and three sides to feed four. So,
the next time you want to take a meal to
a new mom or a family in need, keep this
option in mind. (As well as those days
when you really just don't want to cook,
of course!)
By the way, if you dine in between 3 and
5 p.m., you'll receive 25% off your entire
ticket!
